Women's Water Polo Falls In CWPA Championship

PROVIDENCE – The Princeton Women's Water Polo Team fell in the CWPA Championship to the Harvard Crimson, 10-8, in overtime at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Harvard's Maya O'Dea's goal 2:20 in the first portion of overtime proved to be the game-winner. The Crimson added an insurance tally as time expired.
Princeton trailed by two with three minutes to go, but power play goals by Ava Houlahan and Olivia Krotts tied the contest.
In the second portion of overtime, Harvard gave up their possession to play defense for one final shot by Princeton. The Crimson produced a field block and then ran out the clock to take the victory.
The first quarter had no goals scored as Harvard's Orli Cooper and Princeton's Lindsey Lucas stood tall in the cage.
In the second frame, each team exchanged goals, leading to a 3-3 halftime score. Grace Houlahan, Kate Mallery and Shanna Davidson got on the scoreboard for the Tigers.
A back-and-forth battle continued as the two conference rivals exchanged tallies in the third stanza with Mallery and Kayla Yelensky helping even the score at 6-all with eight minutes to go.
Yelensky and Rachael Carver were named to the CWPA All-Tournament First-Team while Lucas and Houlahan were second-team selections and Davidson was Honorable Mention.
Princeton finishes the season at 21-7 overall with 10 victories over ranked opponents. With the loss, the careers of Mallery, Yelensky, Houlahan and Carver have come to an end. That group won 95 games, good for a .772 winning percentage along with two CWPA titles.
