Blake Scores Six As Women's Lacrosse Extends Win Streak To Nine Via 12-11 Win At Cornell
April 05, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
Had it all the way!
It was a tale of two halves in Ithaca as No. 8 Princeton built a sizable lead and held off a furious Cornell charge in a 12-11 win.
The Tigers (9-1, 3-0 Ivy) have now won nine games in a row overall and possess the nation's second-longest active winning streak behind only North Carolina (12 games).
McKenzie Blake had six goals in the game to lead all scorers. She now has 50 goals in 10 games this season, tied for 14th in a season by a Princeton player. Blake's career goal total now sits at 192 and she is 18 away from becoming Princeton's all-time record-holder for goals in a season.
The Tigers had a 19-7 edge in draw controls, and needed every single one of them. Abigail Roberts had a game-high eight draw controls, and none was more important than her final one with 0:55 left after the Big Red had closed to within two goals. The ensuing possession resulted in a Princeton turnover, but enough time had elapsed that the result was all but secured despite a final Cornell tally with 0.4 seconds remaining.
Sophie Whiteway was also a key factor on the draw circle as she won seven and now ranks No. 2 all-time in draw controls by a Princeton player with 192. Whiteway was a two-way threat all day, scoring twice and adding an assist for a three-point day while also causing two turnovers and picking up three ground balls.
Jami MacDonald had two goals as well for Princeton, while Haven Dora added three assists.
Amelia Hughes made 12 saves, including five stops in the first quarter and four in the third. Mackenzie Clark made 18 saves for the Big Red.
The Tigers pounced on the Big Red, taking a 4-0 lead after one quarter. The Big Red finally got on the board 17:50 into the game, but after that Princeton scored the final five goals of the first half to lead at the break, 9-1, and seemingly be in full control.
Cornell had other ideas, creeping back into the game in the third quarter before making it a five-goal game with 7:51 to play in the fourth.
A Colette Quinn goal regained a six-goal lead for the Tigers with 3:49 to play, but all of a sudden the Big Red could not miss.
Dylan Madigan scored 0:44 later to start what turned out to be a five-goal Cornell run to close the game. Goals from Caitlin Slaminko and Kylie Gelabert 0:19 apart cut Princeton's lead to just two goals with 0:58 to play, setting up the final draw control win for Roberts that sealed the win.
