PRINCETON, N.J. – Jack Hunt and Giuliano Fravolini Whitchurch will serve as the 2025 Captains of the Princeton men's soccer team, the team announced Wednesday.
The two seniors were elected by their teammates to lead for the 2025 season.
"Congratulations to Jack and Giuliano for being elected captains by their teammates. We know in order to be successful in the Fall we will need leadership from everyone, but Jack and G, with their high standards for how we play and how we handle ourselves on and off the field, will be great role models for the team," said Head Coach Jim Barlow. "They will set the tone for what kind of team we want to be and how we will approach every day. Their different styles of leadership complement each other well. We are all looking forward to working with them as our captains."
Whitchurch, who hails from San Diego, Calif., started all 19 matches for the Tigers last season, recording a team-high 1717 minutes. A critical piece of the Princeton back line, Whitchurch helped the Tigers to one of the best defenses in the Ivy League.
Whitchurch was also named to the 2024 First Team All-Ivy, and he was named to the All-Ivy Tournament Team after helping Princeton win its first ever Ivy League Tournament Championship.
A leader on the field and in the classroom, Whitchurch also earned CSC Academic All-District honors.
"I'm incredibly honored to have been selected as a captain for Princeton men's soccer. It's humbling to have been trusted by my teammates with this responsibility alongside Jack," said Whitchurch. "I feel deeply committed to this team and I am proud to be a part of it."
"Over my time at Princeton, I've been fortunate to be surrounded by exceptional leaders and teammates to look up to and learn from. I'm eager to carry forward the values they've embodied, which are vital to the success of Princeton soccer," continued Whitchurch. "I truly believe that everyone on this team has the potential to lead in their own way, and that everyone embracing this mindset will be key to us becoming the team we aspire to be."
Hunt, a fellow California native from Coronado, started all 16 games that he appeared in for the Tigers last season.
After being a consistent force in the Tiger midfield, Hunt was named to the All-Ivy Honorable Mention list.
"It's an incredible honor to be named a captain of this team. This program means the world to me, and for that recognition to come from my teammates and best friends makes it even more meaningful," said Hunt. "Throughout my time at Princeton, I've had the privilege of learning from some truly outstanding leaders, and I know I have big shoes to fill. That said, I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead."
Looking towards next season, Whitchurch added, "I think we have some great starting points from this past Fall season and can raise the standard to be even higher for the group next season. I can tell the buzz among the team is high as we look to next Fall, and I'm grateful to have such a passionate group of guys to grind alongside one step at a time towards our goals."
Hunt said: "To reach our goals, we have to commit to a standard of grit, discipline, and excellence that is far above any team we play. We all know that this standard will leave no room for shortcuts and gives us no choice but to succeed."
"The season can't come fast enough, but right now, our focus is on the day-to-day: improving every session, holding each other accountable, and making sure we're more than ready to dominate when the time comes."
