Wright, Zhang Earn NFCA All-Region Honors
May 15, 2025 | Softball
After helping the Princeton softball team to its fourth straight Ivy League title and to serve as Ivy League postseason host for the fourth straight year, sophomore third baseman Sonia Zhang and junior pitcher Brielle Wright have been voted as NFCA All-East Region honorees by the region's coaches.
It's the second honor in as many seasons at Princeton for Zhang, who was a third-team honoree in 2024, and it's the first all-region honor for Wright.Â
Zhang hit .357 on the season, good for second on the team, and led Princeton with 51 hits and 12 doubles while finishing second on the team with eight home runs, 38 runs scored and 33 RBI. Zhang's batting average stands eighth in the Ivy League while her hits were third, her runs scored were third, her RBI total was fifth, her doubles tied for second, her home runs tied for fourth, and her 89 total bases were second. Zhang's .456 on-base percentage was seventh in the league and her .622 slugging percentage was ninth. Zhang's eight homers (six), 33 RBI (27) and 22 walks (20) all surpassed her rookie-year totals.
A year after setting the Princeton and Ivy League season and career records for saves, Wright became Princeton's lead starter, winning 12 games to eclipse what had been her career wins total entering the season (10). Her innings total of 134 1/3 also surpassed her 128 innings combined from her first two seasons, as did her 118 strikeouts, after setting 108 batters down on strikes over her first two seasons. In the league, Wright's win total tied for third, her innings and strikeouts totals were second, as were her four shutouts.Â
Both players were first-team All-Ivy League honorees, and Wright was the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year, turning in a league-low 1.56 ERA, 65 strikeouts that were third-best in league play, a league co-best nine wins, and all in 76 1/3 innings pitched in Ivy games, the third-most in the league. Wright's four shutouts in Ivy play were double what any other pitcher had, and her .202 opponent batting average was a league low as well.
