Softball Takes Series Opener from Brown
April 03, 2026 | Softball
Continuing their strong start to Ivy League play, the Princeton softball team scored twice in the first inning and answered a Brown rally on the way to a 6-2 win on Friday afternoon at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field.
With the win, Princeton improved to 7-0 in the Ivy League, surpassing last season's 6-0 start for the best opening run to Ivy League play since the 2008 Tigers started 14-0.
The Tigers had six hits on the day and benefited from six walks and a hit batter. The hit-by-pitch and two of those walks came in the first inning, and Jessica Phelps took advantage with a two-run single to get Princeton an early 2-0 lead.
Brown tied it in the third after a hit batter and a base hit put two on for Amanda Deng to drive both home and make it 2-2, but Princeton pulled right back in front in the bottom of the third. A walk and a hit put two on, and Phelps again came through with an RBI to give Princeton a 3-2 lead.Â
Princeton tacked on the final three runs in the fourth inning, using a hit and a walk to put two on for Karis Ford, who tripled into the right-field corner before a sacrifice fly from Sonia Zhang brought Ford home for the 6-2 lead.
In the circle, Cassidy Shaw got the win, going five innings and allowing the two runs on three hits and two walks, striking out two, before Reece Uehara allowed just three hits and nothing else over two innings to close it out.
Princeton and Brown will wrap the series on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader back at Cynthia Paul Field.Â
