No. 19/20 Men's Hockey Has Win Streak Snapped By Union, 4-2
January 10, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
No. 19/20 Princeton's nine-game home winning streak came to an end via a 4-2 loss to Union at Hobey Baker Rink as the Tigers closed out a five-game homestand.
Jaxson Ezman had a goal and an assist for the Tigers, while Julian Facchinelli added the other Princeton goal.
Arthur Smith made 27 saves, while allowing three goals.
The Tigers were 1-for-3 on the power play, and killed off all three Union man advantages to extends its run of successful penalty kills to 16 in a row.
Tyler Dunbar and Nate Hanley each had a goal and an assist for the Garnet Chargers who scored three times in the third period to erase a one-goal Princeton lead after 40:00 of play.
The loss not only snapped Princeton's program-record nine-game home winning streak to start a season, it ended the nation's longest active overall winning streak that had stood at six games and it halted Princeton's seven-game ECAC win streak.
The Tigers now sit at 11-5-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the ECAC, sitting in second place in the conference with 22 points – one behind Quinnipiac.
Julian Facchinelli picked up where he left off in Friday's game, netting his third goal of the weekend 8:42 in to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Jaxson Ezman knocked away a Union pass just inside the Tigers' blue line, springing Brendan Gorman and Facchinelli on a 2-on-1. A saucer pass from Gorman sent Facchinelli in clean for a quick deke and a shot under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead that stood up after a Union challenge for offsides proved incorrect.
Union had a prime chance to take the lead midway through the second period after a five-minute major was called on David Ma for kneeing. That call negated a Princeton power play and gave the Garnet Chargers about 4:30 of power play time. Union took six shots on goal during the ensuing power play, and all six were turned aside by Arthur Smith.
Momentum than switched over to Princeton's side as Seamus Latta drew a Union penalty off a dogged forecheck deep in the Garnet Charger end.
On the following Princeton power play, Jaxson Ezman wired home his sixth goal of the season with 3:34 to play in the middle stanza, finishing off a gorgeous cross-ice pass from David Jacobs off a rush started by Tyler Rubin.
The third period saw Union score twice in 1:29 to take a 3-2 lead. Brandon Buhr scored 4:34 in, finding the rebound of a Tyler Dunbar shot off the end board and stuffing it home.
Dunbar then scored 89 seconds later, taking a Nate Hanley faceoff win and circling to open space above the circle before sending a wrister over Smith's glove with 13:57 left in the third.
The Garnet Chargers added an insurance goal off a bad bounce for the Tigers as they tried to knock down a long-distance attempt from Hanley that subsequently found a new course into the open Tiger net with 0:54 to play.
The Tigers head on the road, visiting Cornell (Jan. 16) and Colgate (Jan. 17) for 7 p.m. faceoffs.
