No. 18/18 Men's Hockey Edged By No. 12/13 Cornell, 2-1
January 16, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
A Hoyt Stanley goal with 3:09 to play was the difference in a 2-1 win for No. 12/13 Cornell at Lynah Rink over No. 18/18 Cornell.
The Tigers scored first, but the Big Red rallied with a power play goal in the second period and Stanley's solo effort with just over three minutes left.
Arthur Smith made 26 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Alexis Cournoyer stopped 22 for the Big Red.
The Tigers opened the scoring 2:56 into the game when Jaxson Ezman stuffed home the rebound of a Nick Marciano shot that Cournoyer got a pad on but the second chance went right to the stick of Ezman who had an open net to funnel a backhand shot into for a 1-0 Princeton lead.
Cornell equalized in the second period, capitalizing on its third power play of the game via a Chase Pirtle deflection of a Caton Ryan shot with 8:14 left in the second period and just 0:06 remaining on the power play.
Princeton almost regained its lead moments later on a power play of its own when Tyler Rubin sprung free on a breakaway, but Cournoyer turned the shot aside to keep the game even at 1-1 through two periods of play.
In the third, Stanley gathered a loose puck at the blue line and then weaved through traffic to create space down the lane before flipping a backhander in with 3:09 to play.
Princeton concludes its weekend trip with a 7 p.m. faceoff at Colgate on January 17.

Ezman's goal marked the first time Cornell had trailed in 193:59 of game play dating back to a game against Omaha on January 2, 2026. The Big Red eventually erased their deficit in that game en route to a 6-4 win and then did not trail at all over their next three games.EZ Does It!
