PRINCETON, N.J. – Andrew Samuels was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List by United Soccer Coaches on Friday.
Senior goalkeeper Samuels was one of just three goalkeepers and one of 30 NCAA Division I players nationally to be selected to the list. It is his second time being named to the Midseason Watch List after being tabbed last year.
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor, recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Samuels, the 2025 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, has been off to a strong start to the 2026 season, posting five shutouts through nine contests so far. The stat puts him at third in the nation.
Samuels also ranks sixth in the nation in save percentage (0.878), and 11th in goals-against (0.556).
He has led Princeton to being one of the nation's top defensive teams, with the squad ranking second in save percentage and sixth in goals-against with the same numbers.
Last season, Samuels led Princeton to a 7-0 Ivy League campaign without conceding a goal for the first time in league history. HIs performance helped Princeton become the first team to win both the Ivy League Championship and the Ivy League Tournament in the same season.
This year, he and the Tigers will look to defend their titles, currently posting a record of 5-2-2 on the season and sitting at 25th in the RPI rankings.
The MAC Hermann trophy is named in honor of the late Robert Hermann, the legendary St. Louis, Mo., businessman and soccer executive who founded the National Professional Soccer League, the first pro soccer league in the United States which became the North American Soccer League. He was inducted in the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.
The 2026 midseason watch list was compiled by members of the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List Committee. A total of 15 players will be named 2026 Hermann Trophy semifinalists on December 4 at the conclusion of NCAA Division I All-American voting. From that list, head coaches will cast votes, and three players will be named finalists. The 2026 recipient will be announced January 8, 2027, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, Mo.
Samuels and the Tigers will be back in action this Saturday as they continue conference play with a visit from Yale. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Roberts Stadium.
