Men's Hockey Secures ECAC Home Ice Despite Shootout Loss To Colgate
February 20, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton dominated in just about all areas of its game against Colgate, rebounding from an unfortunate bounce to force overtime in a 1-1 tie which saw Colgate secure the extra point in the shootout.
The Tigers found solace in the result as the one point earned coupled with results around the ECAC left Princeton with an assured home game when it starts the ECAC Playoffs. Princeton has 32 points and is tied with Harvard for fourth place with three games to go and assured of no worse than an eighth-place finish in the ECAC regular season standings.
The final three games of the regular season will see the Tigers take on all the teams surrounding them in the standings as they host Cornell (T2nd) on February 21 for Senior Night before heading out on the road to take on Harvard (T4) and Dartmouth (T2) in the final weekend. Reid Dyck made 41 saves for the Raiders while Arthur Smith stopped 25 shots in the Princeton net.
17 of Princeton's shots came in the third period as they looked to rally after falling behind, 1-0, when an inopportune collision between a Princeton defenseman and a linesman left Max Nagel free to walk in and give the Raiders the lead midway through the second.
The Tigers pushed back after the tough bounce, landing 14 total shots on goal in the second period but unable to find the tying goal in the frame. Reid Dyck was up to the task all period, including a sliding top of a Drew Garzone shot at the far post and a stick save to deny Jake Manfre on a breakaway.
In the third, the Tiger onslaught continued until Rubin ultimately found the back of the net. Seamus Latta picked up a loose puck along the right wall and drove to the net where his initial shot was saved before he funneled a second chance back into the mixer where Luc Pelletier was parked and caused chaos as he was cross-checked by a Colgate player into the goalie just as Rubin was stepping into a slap shot that sailed into the open net.
The Raiders challenged for goaltender interference but the goal stood as the contact was initiated by the Raiders and the game was tied.
Princeton had to survive a late penalty kill after Pelletier was called for slashing with 1:48 left in regulation but the Tigers washed away the man advantage which then led to almost all of the overtime period being played 4-on-4 before Dyck made a stop with under 0:50 to play in the extra period.
After neither team scored in overtime, Brendan Gorman was up first in the shootout and scored for Princeton to put the Tigers up. In the second round, Max Nagel evened things with a Colgate goal before Jack Brandt broke the tie with the deciding goal in the third round.
Princeton closes out the regular season portion of its Hobey Baker Rink schedule hosting No. 10/11 Cornell for Senior Night on February 21. All fans are invited to remain following the conclusion of the game as the Tigers honor the Class of 2026.

Princeton outshot the Raiders, 42-26, and peppered Reid Dyck throughout the game but only could solve him once during the 65:00 of play when Tyler Rubin crashed the net to hammer home the equalizer with 8:37 to play in the third.Rubin ties it up for the Tigs!!@ecachockey | @TeamECH | @NCAAIceHockey pic.twitter.com/0xsr4gLIfH
