Zhang Leads Princeton Past Cornell At ECAC Championships
February 08, 2026 | Women's Tennis
Maybe there's something to these 8 am starts for the Princeton women's tennis team.
For the second straight morning at the ECAC Championships the team is hosting, Princeton racked up a dominant win, this time taking down Cornell 4-0 to finish the tournament at 2-1.
Princeton fell into the consolation half of the bracket with a loss to Yale Friday in the quarterfinals and as such had to play back-to-back weekend matches at 8 am. The Tigers defeated Harvard, the top seed, 4-1 Saturday morning and then had get up early again to face the Big Red.
The three doubles matches were a race to see which Tigers would get to six games first. It turned out to be Pearlie Zhang and Tsehay Driscoll at No. 1 and Alice Ferlito and Maren Urata at No. 3, as both teams won their sets 6-0. Eva Elbaz and Isabella Chhiv were up 5-2 when their teammates finished.
As for the singles, Zhang at No. 6 continued her strong weekend with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cornell's Emma Baker. In the two consolation round matches, Zhang played twice in singles and twice in doubles, going 3-0 with a doubles match that didn't finish after Princeton had already won the point against Harvard. The three matches that did finish featured five total sets, in which Zhang won three of them at 6-0, one at 6-1 and one at 6-2.
Zhang was the first Tiger to finish her singles match against Cornell, and she was quickly followed by Chhiv at No. 2 (6-3, 6-3) and Elbaz at No. 3 (6-1, 7-5). Princeton was up a set in two of the three remaining matches and had split sets in the other when they were abandoned.
