By nightfall Friday, guess which men's tennis team will have completed half of its Ivy League schedule? That would be, somewhat astonishingly, Pepperdine, of all teams.
The Waves, whose campus sits on a hill above the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, has spent a week here in the East, with a schedule that has included four Ivy League opponents. Pepperdine, ranked 27th, has already lost to Columbia and defeated Harvard and Yale on this trip, which continues Friday with a 2 pm match at Princeton, who is currently ranked one spot back, at No. 28.
The same ITA rankings that have the two teams so close also had four Tigers ranked in either singles or doubles. Paul Inchauspe is No. 5 in singles this week, and he and Landon Ardila were No. 7 in doubles. Sebastian Sec and Aleksandar Mitric were ranked 87 in doubles.
Pepperdine's Lasse Poertner, the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Week, is ranked 95th in singles, followed by teammate Aleksa Pisaric at No. 119. Those two are also ranked 83rd in doubles. After taking on Princeton to end its four match run against Ivy opponents, Pepperdine will take the same trip to Murfreesboro that Princeton did last week to take on Middle Tennessee State Sunday.
This will be the 18th meeting all-time between Princeton and Pepperdine, and the Tigers will be looking for their first win in the series.
