#4 Heavyweight Rowing Wins Back Compton Cup Over #3 Harvard
April 18, 2026 | Heavyweight Rowing
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The #4 Princeton heavyweight rowing team reclaimed the Compton Cup against #3 Harvard at the Charles River Saturday morning.
"Well, that was spicy," said Head Coach Greg Hughes. "The Basin definitely served up some of the thickest conditions we've seen this season and I'm proud of the way our team stepped up. One of my favorite things about rowing is that success requires a full team effort. Rowing results are not the product of just one person. Today was a successful day for the Tigers, and it was thanks to many. Our performance today required the hard work and commitment of every member of our team and I'm incredibly grateful for the grit and dedication of our staff and athletes. We're now just past halfway in our regular season. We're all excited about what we've achieved so far but know that there is still much more to do."
The Tigers' Compton Cup victory moves the all-time series to 3-3 over the past five seasons. Princeton also won the Compton Cup in 2024 and 2023.
"Challenging conditions out there today but also good to get it done," said Marcus Chute. "Looking forward to fully finding the limit in the posteason."
The 1V (5:29.99) earned a thrilling victory over the Crimson (5:31.29) while the 2V (5:36.55) fell just short to Harvard (5:32.87). The 3V (5:34.82) also finished behind the Crimson (5:34.82) but the 4V (5:47.91) prevailed over Harvard (6:03.56). The 5V race saw Princeton (5:57.96) come out on top against Boston University (5:59.22).
