Dartmouth Takes Regular-Season Finale
May 03, 2026 | Softball
A day after securing a piece of the Ivy League record for league wins in a season, the Princeton softball team was stopped a win short of holding the record outright, as Dartmouth took Sunday's regular-season finale 5-3 at Cynthia Lynn Paul '94 Field.
Princeton was aiming to become just the second team, along with the 2023 Tigers, to win all seven league series in a season since the 21-game format began in 2018, but a four-run third inning gave Dartmouth a lead the Big Green didn't give back.
Princeton got on the board with a run in the second inning, with Mia Valenzuela singling home Abby Hornberger three batters after Hornberger led off the inning with a base hit.
Dartmouth used two singles and a double to tie it in the top of the third, and then with two batters still on, Olivia Schramm hit a three-run homer to put the Big Green up 4-1. The Tigers answered with two in the bottom half of the inning when Hornberger had a two-RBI single to cash in on an inning that saw two singles and a hit batter before her, but that was the end of the scoring for Princeton.
Dartmouth added one in the fifth on a Schramm double to pick up a leadoff single for the game's final run.
Anna Marie Fagan went the distance for the Big Green in the circle to get the win while Cassidy Shaw threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Brielle Wright.Â
Princeton will open the Ivy League Tournament at home against Brown, with the Tigers seeded first. Harvard, Columbia and Brown hold the final three seeds after Sunday's play firmed up the tournament lineup. The tournament is scheduled to start Thursday with Brown-Princeton at 12 p.m. and Columbia-Harvard to follow. Tickets will be available here.
