Brendan Colgan battled through early-season injuries to finish the season with 17 goals and 20 assists. Colgan had three two-goal games during the season, scoring twice in the season-opening win over Fordham and netting two in back-to-back games against UC San Diego and Pomona-Pitzer during the SoCal Tournament in mid-October. Colgan’s 20 assists ranked second on the team, including nine in a six-game stretch to start the season.
Colgan was a first-team All-Southern selection as a sophomore. He was Princeton’s fourth-leading scorer that season with 29 goals in 26 games played. In addition, he added 18 assists and 23 steals from his position. Colgan had a pair of six-game scoring streaks during the season and scored a season-high three goals twice, in games against Fordham and Navy. Colgan started the season strong, scoring nine goals and adding five assists in the season-opening Princeton Invitational.
Colgan had an immediate impact on the Princeton water polo team as a freshman as he scored 24 goals. Colgan added 16 assists and 18 steals during the year. He began his Princeton career with goals in his first four games, including a pair in the season opener against Gannon. A day later, he scored twice in an overtime win against St. Francis. Colgan had a two-goal, two-assist game against Salem and had three-straight two-goal performances on Princeton’s West Coast trip.
Colgan graduated from the Key School and was a member of the school’s water polo team. His team was the High School eastern champion in 2001 and 2002 and Colgan was the tournament’s most valuable player in 2001. He was a member of the Northeast Premier League team from 2003 to 2005 and competed on the 2003 and 2004 National Youth B Team. Colgan’s sister Elyse was a three-time All-America with the Princeton women’s water polo team.
