PHILADELPHIA, Pa - Sabrina King (Jr., Laguna Beach, Calif.), a top candidate for Ivy League Player of the Year, led the Princeton women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Penn Friday night at The Palestra. King had 14 kills and 23 digs, both team-highs for the Tigers.
Emily Brown (Jr., Palo Alto, Calif.) and Michelle Buffum (Fr., San Jose, Calif.) were also top hitters for Princeton as it improves to 16-5 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League. Brown had 13 kills and three total blocks while Buffum had 12 kills. Alexis Collins (So., Los Angeles, Calif.) and Erika Hansen (Sr., Newport Beach, Calif.) combined for 37 of Princeton's 97 digs. Melissa Ford (Sr., Newport Beach, Calif.) had 43 assists and 13 digs.
Penn, which surprised Harvard last weekend in a 3-0 victory, gave Princeton all it could handle in the first two games. The Tigers escaped the first two games with wins of 18-16 and 16-14, respectively, before pulling out a 15-6 win to claim the match. The Quakers were led by Stephanie Horan and Stacey Carter, both of whom had 13 kills. Horan also had 25 digs.
Princeton is off until an important Ivy weekend, starting Friday night at Columbia. The Tigers are one of three teams in the league with just one loss. Princeton owns a tiebreaker over Brown because of the Tigers' 3-0 win in Providence on the 9th. Harvard owns the only win over the Tigers, but it still has dangerous matches against Dartmouth, Yale and Brown remaining.
