PRINCETON, N.J. - Sabrina King (Jr., Laguna Beach, Cal.) was named 1999 Ivy League Women's Volleyball Player of the Year after leading the Princeton Tigers to a league title. King, who was also named Tournament MVP, had a team-high 4.04 kills per game and led the league with 4.44 digs per game. She is the third Princeton player to receive such an honor. Kristi Hakman won in 1990 while Kristin Spataro won in 1996.
Michelle Buffum (Fr., San Jose, Cal.) was named co-Rookie of the Year with Harvard's Mindy Jellin. Buffum overcame an early injury to become one of the team's most reliable hitters. She had 2.98 kills per game and was the only rookie in the league's top ten hitters.
King and Melissa Ford (Sr., Los Angeles, Cal.) were named to the All-Ivy first team. King was the only unanimous selection. Ford, a senior co-captain, recorded 1,247 assists this season. She had led the league in assist average until the Ivy tournament, but she ended with a very respectable 12.11 assists per game, second best among Ivy players. Emily Brown (Jr., Palo Alto, Cal.) was named to the All-Ivy second-team. Brown led the league with a .358 hitting percentage and had 22 kills in the Ivy championship match and was named to the all-tournament team.
Princeton will learn its fate in the NCAA tournament when the brackets are announced Sunday, Nov. 28 at 10 p.m.
