PRINCETON, N.J. - After winning its unprecedented sixth straight Ivy championship, the Princeton University field hockey team has garnered a number of individual postseason honors. Two players were named to the All-America squad—Melanie Meerschwam (Jr., Amstelveen, The Netherlands) and Hilary Matson (Jr., Marathon, N.Y.). Meerschwam was named to the second team after leading the Tigers with 14 goals and three assists for a team-high 31 points. Meerschwam scored goals in 13 of Princeton's final 15 games. Matson had five goals and a team-high 11 assists and was named third-team All America for the second straight year.
Five players were named first-team Regional All America. Joining Matson and Meerschwam on that list were Kelly Baril (Fr., Peabody, Mass.), Kellie Maul (Jr., Marlton, N.J.) and Emily Townsend (Fr., Houston, Tx.). Baril was the starting goaltender for most of the season and ended the year with nine wins and a 1.98 goals-against average. Maul was a strong midfielder who connected for four goals and eight assists. Townsend, the sweeper and a nominee for Ivy League Rookie of the Year, was a defensive anchor who added seven goals, including a hat trick at Virginia Commonwealth. Robin Dwyer (Sr., Virginia Beach, Vir.) and Ilvy Friebe (Fr., Bonn, Germany) were named second-team Regional All Americas. Dwyer battled through an injured hand to lead a young defense to another strong season. Friebe, one of numerous talented freshmen this past season, had 11 goals and four assists, including a hat trick in the win at nationally ranked Boston University.
Meerschwam and Matson were named first-team all-Ivy while Townsend, Maul and Dwyer were named to the second team. Baril and Friebe were honorable mentions.
