PRINCETON, N.J. - In a game that started out to look like a shootout, the Princeton women's hockey team managed to escape with a 2-2 tie with the Northeastern Huskies. After going 15-14-1 last season, the Tigers are now 0-0-1 on the season, while Northeastern moves to 3-1-1.
The Huskies got on the board just 15 seconds into the contest with a rebound goal by Michele Lorion. Erine Metcalf assisted on the tally from the doorstep.
Nearly six minutes later, Annamarie Holmes (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) tied the game up at one a piece. Abbey Fox (Jr., Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) assisted.
The game remained tied throughout the second period. Princeton was 0-for-3 on power play opportunities in the second period. The Tigers had only two shots in the three opportunities.
In the third period, Northeastern pulled ahead with a blistering wrist shot from between the circles by Betsy Dyke. Dyke's goal was assisted by Kim Vallone. Almost 13 and a half minutes into the final frame, Andrea Kilbourne (So., Saranac Lake, N.Y.) blasted a slap shot from the top of the face off circle to tie the game again. Holmes notched her second point of the afternoon with an assist.
Neither team could dent the scoring column in the extra stanza. Tiger goalkeeper Susan Maes (So., Manitowoc, Wisc.) made three stops in the final period and stopped a total of 25 for the game.
Princeton returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 against the Providence Friars at Baker Rink.
