PRINCETON, N.J. - After a three-point performance in Wednesday's 2-1 win over Rutgers, Kate Fox (Jr., Chichester, N.H.) scored twice in a 5-0 win for the Princeton University field hockey team over Brown University. Princeton is now 9-0, 4-0 in the Ivy League.
After a well-played opening 30 minutes for both squads, Princeton took control of the game late in the first half. Molly O'Malley (Sr., Tunkhannock, Pa.) opened the scoring by blasting a shot past Annie Owens. Only 43 seconds later, Fox took a penalty corner and shot by Owens for the second goal.
Melanie Meerschwam (So., Amstelveen, The Netherlands) made sure that Princeton maintained momentum in the second half when she took a pass from Kate Carroll and found herself alone in front of the net. The sophomore found the back left corner for the game's third goal. Alison Morris (Sr., Coquitlam, B.C.) and Fox added two late goals, including a penalty stroke for Fox. This is the second straight game that Fox has converted on a penalty stroke.
Princeton goalkeeper Meg DeJong made one save for her seventh shutout of the season. The Tigers, currently ranked fourth in the nation, will travel to Columbia on Monday at 7 p.m.
