Minnesota, Princeton Get Wins in Tournament's First Day

PRINCETON, N. J. - At the opening day of the Sixth Annual Thanksgiving Invitational, Minnesota came away with a win over Northeastern, 5-2, while Princeton defeated Queen's, 7-0 tonight at Baker Rink.

Minnesota controlled the first game, coming out and scoring two goals in the first period. On the day, the Golden Gophers scored two power-play goals. Top point-getters for Minnesota were Nadine Muzerall and Jenny Schmidgall with four points apiece. For Northeastern, Jennie Setaro led the Huskies with a goal and an assist.

In goal for the Golden Gophers, Erica Killewald turned aside 32 Huskie attempts while Northeastern netminders Erika Silva and Shannon Meyers combined for 31 saves.

In the evening's second match, the Tigers dominated the Queen's Gaels the entire game. Senior Ali Coughlin (Lincoln, Mass.) netted two goals while freshman Andrea Kilbourne (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists. Sophomore Lucy Firestone (Washington, D.C.) contributed to the Tigers' effort with a goal and two assists.

For the Tigers, freshman goaltender Susan Maes stopped 8 shots for the shutout while Queen's goalie Claudia Tom had 35 saves on the night.

Tomorrow's action will see Northeastern face off against Queen's at 2 p.m. and then Princeton against Minnesota at 5 p.m.
