Northeastern and Minnesota Come Out on Top

PRINCETON, N. J. - In day two of the Princeton Thanksgiving Invitational, Northeastern and Minnesota came away with wins over Queen's and Princeton, respectively. In game one, the Huskies dominated the entire game, shutting out the Gaels 10-0. The second game was more evenly matched but the Tigers were unable to hold off the Golden Gophers, falling 3-1 at Baker Rink tonight.
Northeastern came out and scored three goals in the first period but then completely took over in the second period scoring seven goals. Top scorers for the Huskies were Hilary Witt with three goals and Brooke Whitney with one goal and two assists. Brooke White also contributed to the effort with three assists.
Queen's goaltenders, Genevieve Hupe and Catherine Shaw had 31 saves on the night while Northeastern netminders Shannon Meyers and Jennifer Buckley combined for four saves.
In game two which featured Minnesota against Princeton, all of the scoring was limited to the second period. For the Tigers senior Ali Coughlin (Lincoln, Mass.) netted the only goal off of assists by sophomores Abbey Fox (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and Annamarie Holmes (Apple Valley, Minn.).
Princeton netminder Susan Maes had a strong outing, stopping 36 Golden Gopher attempts while Minnesota goaltender Erica Killewald turned aside 25 Tiger shots.
In tomorrow's action, Minnesota and Queen's will face off at 10:30 and then Princeton will face off against Northeastern to conclude the tournament at 1:30.
