Minnesota Wins Invitational for Second Straight Year

PRINCETON, N.J. - In the final day of the Thanksgiving Invitational, the Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the Queen's Golden Gaels 10-0 to take the championship. In the final game of the tournament, Northeastern defeated Princeton 5-0 to earn second place while the Tigers finished third today at Baker Rink.
In game one, Minnesota controlled the game the entire time, scoring two goals in both the first and third periods but opening up in the second period with six goals. The Golden Gophers were a perfect three-for-three on the power-play. For Minnesota, Kris Scholz had a natural hat trick and Jenny Schmidgall had one goal and three assists.
Queen's goaltenders Claudia Tom and Genevieve Hupe stopped 38 Minnesota shots while Gopher's goalie Crystal Nicholas stopped all six shots she faced.
In the final game of the tournament, the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Tigers 5-0. Northeastern scored two power play goals while the Tigers were 0 for 4 on the power-play.
Huskie netminder Shannon Meyers had 19 saves on the day and Tigers goalie Susan Maes turned aside 23 Huskie shots.
The Tigers will return to league play next weekend when they host Brown and Providence at 2 p.m.
