PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Emily Townsend (Houston, Texas) was recognized as the Ivy League Player of the Week, for the week ending October 15, 2000. This marks the second time she has earned Ivy honors this year.
Townsend scored two goals last week in two games for the Tigers. Her first goal came in a 4-1 win over Brown, allowing Princeton to remain unbeaten in Ivy League play at 4-0. The win also avenged a 2-1 loss suffered to Brown one year ago, as the Bears became the only Ivy League team to beat Tigers since 1993.
Townsend registered her second goal of the week in a 5-2 win over Duke. She currently ranks second on the team in points scored (14) and goals (6), while handing out a fifth-best two assists.
Princeton is currently 7-3 (4-0 Ivy League) and ranked No. 7 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll released today (Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000). The team will face Delaware (7-8, 4-1 America East) on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at home before hosting No. 18 Harvard and No. 5 Penn State over the weekend.
