NORFOLK, Va. - The eighth-ranked Princeton University field hockey team took its second-straight loss of the season, as they fell 3-2 to North Carolina on the campus of Old Dominion, Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers registered their first loss against No. 1 Maryland (2-0) on October 29th and had their match-up with Rutgers University cancelled due to inclement weather before entering this weekend with a 5-1 record.
The Tar Heels took a 1-0 lead going into halftime on a goal by Kristen McCann, with just 4:40 remaining in the half, and scored two more unanswered goals at 30:42 and 28:27 of the second half to give North Carolina a commanding 3-0 lead.
Freshman Cory Picketts (Marmora, N.J.) scored the Tigers first goal with 19:12 remaining in the game, as she converted on a penalty corner assisted by seniors Hilary Matson (Marathon, N.Y.) and Bridget Marchesi (Spring Lake, N.J.).
Matson scored her seventh goal of the season less than two minutes later (17:28) to cut the deficit to one, but couldn't get any closer as the Tar Heels hung on for a 3-2 victory.
