In the October addition of Sports Illustrated for Women, Princeton University was recognized as one of the 10 best colleges for women athletes. Princeton, the only Ivy League school to garner mention, earned the ninth spot in the rankings. Among the factors considered in the ratings were athletic program success, facilities, fan support, tradition, and opportunities for non-varsity athletes.
Though the smallest school in the top 10 list (many of the state schools honored have enrollments 5-10 times greater than Princeton's), Princeton had by far the greatest number of varsity female athletes and offered the most varsity sports for women. These figures point to the prominence of athletics in the life of Princeton, and the great opportunities that Princeton provides for women to compete, and excel, in sports.
