Field Hockey Heads To NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee announced the field of 16 teams for the 2000 Division I Field Hockey Championship. Eight teams received at-large bids, six conferences were granted automatic qualifications, and two teams received berths by way of a play-in game.
The Tigers will head to Maryland to play Penn State in first-round action on Saturday, Nov. 11. In that same bracket Maryland will take on New Hampshire. The winner of those two games will play on Sunday, Nov. 12, with the hopes of moving on to the semifinals in Norfolk, Va. (Old Dominion).
Princeton (13-3, 7-0 Ivy League) made it into the tournament by way of automatic qualification. The Tigers won their seventh-consecutive Ivy League Championship, granting them the invitation to the tournament.
Old Dominion tops the tournament bracket as the No. 1 seed, along with North Carolina, Maryland and Wake Forest rounding out the top-four. The remaining teams in the tournament are Connecticut, Virginia, Harvard, Michigan, William and Mary, Kent, Massachusetts, Boston University, Stanford, Penn State and New Hampshire.
