Tigers Pick Up Pair Of Wins In Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's water polo team remained undefeated with two victories in the 2000 Princeton Invitational on Saturday at DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers opened the day with a 13-6 win over Queens followed by a 13-7 victory over Brown in the nightcap.
Against Queens, head coach Luis Nicolao was able to go deep in his bench, including three different goalies that saw action. The Tigers were led by first-year player Adele McCarthy (Haydenville, Mass.), who tallied five goals, including four in the first quarter. Katherine Kixmiller (Jr., Menlo Park, Calif.) tallied two of her four goals in the second quarter to give Princeton an 8-2 lead at halftime. Joanne Armstrong (Fr., Danville, Calif.) scored two goals in the final quarter for the 13-6 final score.
In the second game of the day, McCarthy and Jenny Edwards (Fr., Houston, Texas) each poured in four goals as the Tigers topped Ivy League foe Brown. Princeton scored the first three goals of the game and led 6-2 at halftime. Alina Brown (Jr., University Place, Wash.) added two goals, while Cassie Nichols (So., Santa Barbara, Calif.), Morgan Voltez (Fr., Irvine, Calif.) and Kixmiller each scored one goal.
The Tigers are now 4-0 on the young season. The Tigers will round out weekend competition against the top ranked team in the East on Sunday, Feb. 27, as they take on UMass at 1:45 p.m.
