BOSTON, Mass. - Goalie Erika Silva stopped all 21 shots she faced to give Northeastern a 4-0 victory over Princeton in a Sunday afternoon ECAC matchup at Matthews Arena.
At the 7:30 mark of the second period, NU forward Brooke White broke open and outskated two Princeton defenders for her 10th goal of the year, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Nearing the end of the second frame of action, Northeastern forward Kathleen Savino, falling down, managed to slide a shot past Princeton goaltender Sarah Ahlquist for her ninth of the season.
It was all Northeastern in the final period as well as NU's Hilary Witt redirected an Erine Metcalf shot for her 27th of the year. Just 35 seconds later Husky defenseman Kim Greene netted a blast from the blueline over the left shoulder of Ahlquist for her seventh of the year and third point of the afternoon. Greene also assisted both Northeastern goals in the second period to White and Savino.
Princeton's best opportunities of the game came halfway through the third period as Tiger forward Laura Hays slipped a pass across the crease to fellow forward Nikola Holmes who was stoned by Silva twice. Just four minutes later Princeton forward Jessica Fedderly intercepted an errant NU pass for a breakaway attempt that just missed off the left post. Silva came away with her 20th victory of the season to go along with her ninth shutout.
With the win, the Huskies climb to 20-7-3 overall and 14-5-3 in the ECAC, with an important conference faceoff against Dartmouth up next on Friday. Princeton falls to 11-11-5 overall, and 9-10-3 in the conference.
