PRINCETON, N.J. - Niagara (16-8-2, 9-8-1 ECAC) scored three goals in the second period, two coming within 1:15 of each other, and turned a 1-0 deficit to the Princeton women's hockey team (8-8-5, 6-7-3 ECAC) into a 3-1 lead. The Purple Eagles defeated the Tigers by a score of 3-2 this afternoon at Baker Rink. Despite out-shooting Niagara 40-15 and scoring a goal in the final minute of play, Princeton's rally was thwarted.
Abbey Fox (Jr., Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) scored her first goal of the game on an assist from Andrea Kilbourne (So., Saranac Lake, N.Y.) only 7:55 into the game. The power play goal gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
After the first intermission, Niagara got on the board with a goal by Linda Groff at the 4:00 mark of the second period. Brooke Bradburn then scored on the power play only 1:15 later. Bradburn tallied her second goal of the game at the 11:10 mark. Captain Stephanie Romain had the only assist on all three Niagara goals. Bradburn's power play goal was the first given up by Princeton since Dec. 5, 1999, a span of nine games.
Fox scored her second goal of the game, also from Kilbourne, with the extra skater on the ice at 19:47 of the third period, but the late Princeton rally was stopped by the Niagara defense.
Sarah Ahlquist (Fr., South St. Paul, Minn.) made 12 saves in goal for the Tigers. Both teams combined for 30 penalty minutes.
