BERKELEY, CALIF. - The Princeton women's water polo team got a taste of what it takes to play with the top team in the country. Unfortunately the Tigers ended up on the short side of a 13-6 decision to No. 1 California on Thursday at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Adele McCarthy (Fr., Haydenville, Mass.) led the way for Princeton with three goals. Cassie Nichols (So., Santa Barbara, Calif.) found the back of the cage twice, while Katherine Kixmiller (Jr., Menlo Park, Calif.) scored once.
Cal was led by senior Brooke Spittler, junior Beth Irwin and sophomore Breena Fleener with three goals apiece.
The Tigers are now 9-2 on the year, 4-0 in CWPA play. Princeton will be in action Saturday as it plays San Jose State at 10 a.m. and the University of the Pacific at 4 p.m.
