Princeton Snaps Losing Skid With 6-5 Overtime Victory

STOCKTON, CALIF. - Princeton snapped a three-game losing streak and ended its spring break trip on a high note with a 6-5 overtime win over Pacific in women's water polo action at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton. Adele McCarthy (Fr., Haydenville, Mass.) provided the late game heroics with the game-winner in the second overtime period.
After a 2-2 first half and a scoreless third quarter, Pacific took a 4-2 lead with 2:48 remaining in the game on a goal by Stephanie Hilo. Princeton scored two goals in the final 1:34 to knot the score at 4-4 to send the game into overtime. McCarthy's second goal came with just 36 seconds left in regulation.
Alina Brown (Jr., University Place, Wash.) scored with 1:09 remaining in the first overtime to give the Tigers their first lead of the game at 5-4. Pacific's Molly Smith scored with 35 seconds in the extra session to even the score at 5-5. McCarthy's third goal of the day came with 2:23 to play in the second overtime period. That proved to be enough as the Orange and Black left with a 6-5 victory.
McCarthy led the Tigers with three goals, while Brown, Joanne Armstrong (Fr., Danville, Calif) and Jenny Edwards (Fr., Houston, Texas) each added one score. Captain Goga Vukmirovic (Sr., Sarajevo, Bosnia) had a sensational game, tallying 15 saves in goal.
The Tigers are now 10-3 on the year, 4-0 in CWPA play. Princeton will be in action on Saturday, March 18, as it continues CWPA League play at George Washington beginning at 11 a.m..
