PRINCETON, N.J. - The two top women's lightweight programs squared off this morning on Lake Carnegie, as both teams entered the race tied for No. 1 in the latest USRowing rankings. Wisconsin will likely claim sole possession of the top spot with a two-second win in the varsity eight event, with the Tigers taking second in their home opener.
In the four-team field, Villanova took the early lead followed by Princeton and Wisconsin essentially even. The Badgers made their move at the end of the second 500 and into the third, working through the Villanova crew. The Tigers made a late surge to pass the Wildcats in the final strokes of the race for a second place finish in a time of 7:03.78, two seconds behind Wisconsin.
The Tigers finished second to the Badgers in the varsity four race by a mere .05 of a second and by six seconds in the novice eight race.
Princeton is now 0-1 on the year and will compete against Radcliffe on April 29, in Cambridge.
