Tigers Off and Running at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Princeton University men's and women's track and field teams are participating in the 106th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The men's portion of the meet was highlighted by the Tigers, with strong performances from some of Princeton's best distance runners. Mike Spence (Sr., East Stroudsburg, Pa.) took 13th out of twenty-one competitors in the Steeplechase Championship with a time of 8:57.82. Princeton had three men in the 5000 meter Championship. In the first heat, Paul Morrison (So., Chatham, Ont.) ran a 13:55.86 for 3rd place out of twenty-three runners. Wes Stockard (So., Knoxville, Tn.) and Alex Hallett (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) took 24th and 33rd, respectively, for the Tigers. Stockard came in at 14:44.27, Hallett at 14:53.28.
The women's side of the ledger was highlighted by Princeton taking second in the 4x400m Heptagonal Relay. Running for a time of 3:52.02 were Natalie Deffenbaugh (So., Maplewood, NJ), Lauren Simmons, (So., Nashville, Tn.), Mitka Hayes (Sr., Jackson, N.J.), and tri-captain Allison Brown (Sr., Doylestown, Pa.). Hayes also ran the 400m hurdles, coming in 48th with a time of 67.07 seconds, preceded by Natasha Yaeger (Fr. Allenwood, NJ), who finished 47th in 66.21 seconds. Holly Huffman (So., Englewood, Co.) took 31st in the 3000m run with a time of 10:07.92, while Emily Eynon (So., Cincinnati, Oh.) finished the 5000m championship run in 17:51.91, coming in 26th for the Tigers.
The competition continues through Saturday evening.
