Princeton Falls in Track Series Dual Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton men's track and field team finished second in today's dual meet competition that included the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Penn Quakers and the Villanova Wildcats. Penn State won the meet with a total of 205 points and Princeton finished second with 195 points. Penn was third with 169 followed by Villanova with 83. The meet was held as a part of the National Track and Field series at a windy Weaver Track and Field Stadium.
Princeton posted first-place finishes in eight of the 19 events. Paul Elcock (Sr., Trinidad, West Indies) won the 100 meter dash in 10.93 seconds, only .60 seconds off the school record time. Senior John Mack (New Haven, Mich.) won two events. He first won the 400 meters in a time of 46.97 and then followed that up with a 21.32 clocking in the 200 meters. Sophomore Paul Morrison (Chatham, Ont.) timed in at 3:53.10 in the 1,500 meters for first place. Morrison's distance running teammate Mike Spence (Sr., East Stroudsburg, Pa.) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:00.70. Mack led three football players in the 4 x 100-meter relay for the first place finish. The team ran 40.98. In the field events, Princeton won two events. Jonathan Jessup (Sr., Bryan Texas) finished first in the pole vault with a height of 16' 0.75". The shot put competition was no contest with Scott Denbo (Jr., Nashville, Tenn.) involved. The co-captain marked at 60' 3" to beat the second-place competitor by more than six feet.
Princeton will next compete at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee on April 14 and 15 as well as a meet at Columbia on April 15.
