Princeton Field Hockey Explodes For Six Goals

PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Claire Miller (Scarsdale, N.Y.) scored her first two collegiate goals and led Princeton to a 6-0 victory over Drexel University on Thursday night.
Miller's first goal came with 11:10 remaining in the first half, and sent the Tigers into halftime with a 2-0 lead. She registered her second goal of the night at the 24:14 mark in the second half to raise the lead to 3-0.
Senior tri-captain Hilary Matson (Marathon, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season and added one assist, while senior Kellie Maul (Marlton, N.J.) and freshmen Cory Picketts (Marmora, N.J.) and Anne-Marie McGintee (Westbury, N.Y.) rounded out the offensive attack with one goal apiece.
Bridget Marchesi (Spring Lake, N.J.), Kristen Skorupski (Hatfield, Mass.) and Rachael Becker (Broomall, Pa.) were all credited with one assist each in the win. Drexel goalkeeper Heather Haigh (Westville, N.J.) saw Princeton attack for 40 shots and was able to make 17 saves, allowing all six goals. Tiger goaltender Kelly Baril (Peabody, Mass.) had a much easier night making only one save on four Dragon attempts. Baril's lone save came as time expired during a Drexel penalty corner.
Princeton (2-0) is currently ranked No. 13 in the NFHCA coaches' poll and will travel to Yale on Saturday to open Ivy League action at 12:30.
