Field Hockey Opens Ivy League Play; Beats Yale 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman attack Claire Miller helped the Tigers to an early one goal lead, and the Tigers never looked back as they beat Yale 3-0 in New Haven, Connecticut. The game was Princeton's first Ivy League match-up of the 2000 season.
Miller started the scoring with 23:06 remaining in the first half. She entered the game on a roll after a stellar performance against Drexel University on Thursday night, when she scored two goals to lead the Tigers to a 6-0 win.
Against the Bulldogs freshman teammate Cory Picketts scored the Tiger's second goal of the game on a penalty corner off a double assist from Hilary Matson and and Beckie Wood. Matson scored the third and final goal of the game with 59 seconds remaining. Melanie Meerschwam was credited with the assist.
The Tigers outshot Yale 27-1. Princeton goalkeeper Kelly Baril registered one save, while Krissy Nesburg made 16 saves for the Bulldogs in the cage.
Princeton (3-0) will travel to Columbia to continue Ivy League play on September 20 at 7 p.m.
