PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Princeton volleyball team was trailing 14-11 in game five against league-leading Penn, but the Quakers let the lead slip away and the Tigers were able to walkout of the Palestra with a 3-2 Ivy League win. The win denied Penn the chance to clinch its first Ivy crown since 1990 in front of a home crowd, and now the Quakers will have to seal the deal with a win at Brown on Friday.
Princeton came out firing and took the first two games, 30-28 and 30-27 before Penn came storming back to take games three and four 30-21 and 30-19 to send the match into the decisive fifth game.
Junior Abby Studer (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) paced the Tigers offense with 18 kills and added three solo blocks. Freshman Alex Brown (Los Altos, Calif.) had nine kills, and a match-high 33 digs for the Orange and Black while senior Ana Yoerg (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) finished with 55 assists and 18 digs. Junior Michelle Buffum (San Jose, Calif.) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs as did sophomore Kellie Cramm (Laguna Beach, Calif.) who registered 14 kills and 16 digs. Elizabeth Kwak-Hefferan led the Quakers with 20 kills and 31 digs. Stacey Carter added 18 kills and 19 digs, while Jodie Antypass registered 58 assists and 16 digs for Penn.
Princeton (14-8, 8-4) will close out its season on the road. The Tigers will then conclude their regular season at Brown on Friday, Nov. 17 and at Yale on Saturday, Nov. 18. The games are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
