Women's Basketball Team Comes Up Short At Delaware

Newark, Del. - Delaware senior Megan Dellegrotti scored a career high 29 points and tied a school record with six three-pointers as the Blue Hens rolled to their 20th straight home win, knocking off Princeton 85-57 at Acierno Arena on Saturday.
Princeton senior Lauren Rigney pulled down a career high 11 rebounds and scored eight points, however, it was Dellegrotti's 22 first-half points that enabled Delaware to pull away and lead 48-28 at the intermission. Junior Allison Cahill matched her season high scoring output with 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting and sophomore Maureen McCracken registered a career high in rebounds with seven. Freshman Karen Bolster added seven points in the losing effort. "We just didn't play well," said Rigney. "It didn't seem like the intensity was there and if we want to win on Wednesday we will have to play a lot better."
Princeton opened the scoring with Maureen Lane connecting on her 102nd career three-point basket. The 3-0 lead soon became a 5-4 deficit that the Tigers never overcame. A six-minute drought led to a 15-0 Blue Hen run moving the score from 31-21 to 46-21 with 1:16 left to play in the first half.
The Tigers were not getting the rolls or the close calls, shooting 36 percent from the field and going to the free throw line only 19 times. Delaware shot the ball at a 45 percent clip and attempted 43 free throws. The Blue Hens shot 23 free throws in the first half, while Princeton only shot six. In spite of this, the Tigers still made 14 of their 19 free throw attempts.
The Tigers drop to 3-2 on the season, Delaware improves to 3-1. Princeton is now 0-2 when it fails to reach the 70-point mark. Conversely, the Tigers are 3-0 when scoring more than 70 points. The Tigers return home and face Lafayette on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Princeton won its only other home contest this year, a 76-61 defeat of Lehigh to open the season.
