Tigers Edged Out In Overtime

Thibodaux, La. - Nicholls State's Lisa Lawrence nailed a three-point basket as time expired in regulation to send Princeton and NSU into overtime on Monday night. Princeton was only able to muster two points in the extra period and fell by a 66-63 score in Thibodaux, La.
Princeton fell behind early in the game and trailed 34-24 at halftime. The Tigers came out and dominated the early stages of the second half, outscoring the Colonels 13-2 to start the period and with sophomore Kelly Schaeffer scoring seven of the 13 points, Princeton led 37-36.
Junior Maureen Lane hit a three-pointer at 8:16 to give Princeton a 56-48 lead, its biggest lead of the night. Nicholls State answered and with Jennifer Posey's lay-up with 50 seconds remaining, the Colonels were within one point. Junior Allison Cahill scored out of a Princeton timeout, giving the Tigers a three-point lead before Lawrence sent the game into overtime with her long-range shot. Nicholls State outscored Princeton 5-2 in the extra period to give both teams 4-4 overall records on the season. Princeton shot only 32 percent from the field and 23 percent from beyond the arc. Cahill led the team with 17 points, Schaeffer added 13 and sophomore Eileen Powers registered a career-high 11 points in the defeat.
"We're staying close in our ballgames, but that is not enough," says Princeton Coach Richard Barron. "This is a game I expect us to win and I am not at all happy with a loss tonight."
Princeton will now head down the road from Thibodaux and visit New Orleans on Wednesday, Dec. 19. The Tigers meet UNO for the first time in a 8 p.m. Eastern start.
