COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Andrea Kilbourne (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) has been named to the 20-player roster for the 2001-02 USA Olympic Women's Hockey team, as was announced on Monday by the 2002 U.S. Olympic Women's Hockey Team Selection Committee. The team will compete in the XIX Olympic Winter Games from Feb. 8-24, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Annamarie Holmes (Apple Valley, Minn.) was one of two forwards released from the team early on Monday.
Kilbourne, one of the most prolific scorers in recent Princeton history, is one of three skaters making their first appearance on the U.S. national team. She led the team in scoring each of the past three seasons and finished 2000-01 with 49 points (22g, 27a) and was a second-team All-ECAC and All-Ivy selection. The team's captain in 2000-01, Kilbourne was to serve in that capacity in 2001-02.
Holmes, a defenseman while at Princeton, had lined up at forward for the national team. She completed her third season at Princeton in 1999-2000 before leaving school to join the 2000-01 national team. As a junior, she finished third overall among ECAC defensemen in scoring and second on the Tigers with 30 points (12g, 18a). Holmes was a three-time All-Ivy and two-time second-team All-ECAC selection.
The 20 players were selected from the 2001-02 USA Hockey Women's National Team, which is currently competing on The Visa Skate To Salt Lake Tour. The tour schedule is comprised of both national and international games in preparation for the Olympic Winter Games. Team USA currently boasts a 21-0-0 overall record, including a 14-0-0 mark on the tour, and has 10 games remaining before departing for Salt Lake City. The final roster includes 14 members of the gold-medal winning 1998 U.S. Olympic women's team. Joining the 1998 Olymipans are three players who have appeared in International Federation Women's World Championships and three newcomers.
The roster of the 2002 United States Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team is subject to approval of the United States Olympic Committee's International Games Preparation Division.
