Tigers Shine at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton's men's and women's track and field teams shined at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday as the two teams got one last meet behind them in preparation for Heptagonals next weekend in Boston, Mass. The Tigers hosted athletes for six different schools and several running clubs at the afternoon meet at Jadwin Gym. Princeton men and women swept several events in the non-team scoring event.
Tora Harris won the high jump (6' 11.75") in his first meet since having surgery on his foot in October. Stephen Wiley was second with a jump of 6' 8". Freshman Josh McCaughey set the junior national record in the 35 lb. weight throw with a toss of 67' 10.75". Scott Denbo had his indoor personal best, 60' 4", with a win in the shot put. Rocky Craley (54' 9.75") placed second and Jeff Petrulis (52' 6") placed third. Princeton men swept the 5,00 meters with Jeff Di Chiara leading the way with a time of 15:38.9, and the 3,000 meters led by Matt Tanner (8:38.05). Kevin Gallagher led the sweep of the mile with a time of 4:14.8. Paul Gallup (49.90), Dave Foster (50.47) and Martin Rawls-Meehan (50.50) went one-two-three in the 400 meters and Colin Brown (1:56.02), Bruce Hancock (1:56.47) and Sam Snyder (1:57.35) did the same in the 800 meters. Josh Kauke won the 500 meters (1:04.89), Justin Schottel won the 200 (22.50), and John Kieliszack won the 1,000 meters (2:27.18) with Justin Bonetragger (2:36.56) right behind in second place.
The Princeton women took the top six places in the mile, led by Kristee Sherry (5:11.55), and the 800 meters led by Liz Morse (2:14.77). Freshman Didi Yep led the sweep in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.42. Betsy Kennedy (40' 6") and Khalila Thomas (39' 9.75") went one-two in the shot put as did Becca Hylander (10:56.7) and Sarah Rivlin (11:02.84) in the 3,000 meters. Freshman Dale Maffet won the 200 meters (26.39) and Becky Haarlow (39' 8") and Sharon Jordan placed second and third (38' 2.75") in the triple jump.
Princeton track and field will compete at Heptagonals Feb. 24-25 in Boston, Mass.
