Women's Water Polo Defeats UMass 8-5

PRINCETON, N.J. - Playing for the first time in DeNunzio Pool, since the Princeton Invitational tournament held a month ago, the Tigers defeated UMass 8-5. The Tigers entered today's match ranked 14th in the nation according to the most recent Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll. UMass entered today's match ranked 17th.
Sophomore, Adele McCarthy-Beauvais, from Haydenville, Mass. led the Tiger scoring effort, finishing the game with four goals. Junior, Cassie Nichols tallied 3 and sophomore Jenny Edwards finished the match with 1 goal. Goalie, Jenny Hildebrand recorded 8 saves in the match. These three have been the solid scoring unit for Princeton throughout the season thus far.
Princeton never lost the lead, entering the second quarter up 2-1 and going into halftime leading 5-3. At the end of the 3rd, Princeton had opened up a comfortable 8-3 lead.
Princeton will travel to Villanova to face the Wildcats, Friday evening, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers will host Hartwick College, Saturday March 17 at 10 a.m. Princeton defeated Villanova 16-4 last weekend at a CWPA League Weekend match held in Salem, W.V.
