Women's Water Polo Falls to Brown, 11-10 in Eastern Championships

Providence, R.I. - The Princeton Tigers lost to the Bears of Brown University 11-10, in today's Eastern Championship finals. The loss concludes the season for the Tigers, who finish with a 24-7 record and as ECAC champions. Today's match was decided by a single goal in the second overtime period.
Princeton had a 8-5 lead after the third quarter yet a 4-1 run by Brown in the forth tied the match at nine a piece and sent the game into overtime. After the first extra period, consisting of two three-minute halves, the Tigers and the Bears had each scored one goal evening the score at 10-10. Princeton had an opportunity to put the game away in the second sudden-death period yet Brown was able to stop the Tiger offensive threat and control play. Brown's Sonia Lamel scored the game winning unassisted goal for her team. Princeton, who entered the tournament as reigning champions, looses the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Princeton's Jenny Edwards, who has been sensational for the Tigers all season led her team with four goals in today's championship game. Cassie Nicols finished the game with two goals and six assists. Adele McCarthy-Beauvais finished the game with two goals. Senior, Alina Brown, playing in her final game as a Tiger also finished the day two goals. McCarthy-Beauvais and Edwards were named first team all-tournament. Cassie Nichols received second team recognition.
