Women's Water Polo Defeats Slippery Rock and Penn State-Behrend at CWPA Southern Divisional Championships

Grove City, Pa. - The Princeton Tigers defeat Slippery Rock, 10-3 and Penn State-Behrend in women's water polo action today during the first day of competition of the tournament. The match against Slippery Rock was a first round contest in the tournament that is being held in Grove City, Pennsylvania City and is schedule to run the entire weekend, April 6-8.
Leading the Tiger offense in today's first match, was Cassie Nichols who scored three goals and had two assists. Sophomore, Jenny Edwards also posted three goals. Sophomore goalie, Jenny Hildebrand played 3 quarters and had 6 saves. Goalie, Lauren Lister came into the game in the forth quarter and had three save.
In the second game of the day the Tigers defeated Penn State-Behrend, 18-2 in a match that started at 4 p.m. Freshman, Vanessa Jackson led the Tiger scoring effort with 4 goals. Adele McCarthy-Beauvais, who was named MVP of the recent ECAC tournament, scored three goals in today's second game. Lister had seven saves in three quarters of play.
The Tigers will face Indiana, a team they beat 7-6 earlier this season, in tomorrow's semi-final match set to begin at 9 a.m. Princeton has already qualified, by placing in the top four at this weekend's Southern Divisional tournament, to go to the Eastern Championships set for April 28-29. The Tigers won their first Eastern Championships last year.
