Grove City, Pa. - Princeton's women's water polo continued to capture tournament titles, winning the CWPA Southern Division tournament late last night. The Tigers defeated Michigan, 11-5, a team the Princeton had lost to earlier in the year 10-9 at the USCB Gaucho Tournament, to take the Southern title. For Princeton, this is the second time that they have won the Southern Division in two years, and this is their second tournament title in two weeks. Last weekend, March 31-April 1, the Tigers captured the ECAC title.
Head coach, Luis Nicolao mentioned, "That this was a very rewarding game, the girls played great." The Tigers missed playing with Cassie Nichols who earlier in the first quarter was removed after she was whistled for a major penalty. Nichol is one of Princeton's top goals scores. The Tigers were able to rally and never lost the lead.
Adele McCarthy-Beauvais, who finished the ECAC tournament with 14 goals a week ago, had a superb game against Michigan, scoring six goals. Seniors, Alina Brown and Katherine Kixmiller each had one goal apiece. Jenny Edwards topped of the Princeton scoring effort with three goals.
Goalie Jenny Hildebrand made nine saves in the Tiger victory.
The Tigers have earned the number one seed for the Eastern Divisional Championships to be held in Providence, R.I. in three weeks.
