Women's Water Polo's Adele McCarthy-Beauvais Honored by The Olympic Club

San Francisco, Calif. - Adele McCarthy-Beauvais, a standout athlete on the Princeton women's water polo team, is one of five finalists for the 2001 Peter J. Cutino Women's National Player of the Year Award. The award is presented by The Olympic Club and is presented annually to the selected top male and female water polo athlete in the nation.
Two rounds of voting for the award is involved and is done by the respective NCAA coaches. The first is a nomination round to come up with the five top candidates who are voted on in the final ballot. Past winners for the females include Bernice Orwig and Aniko Pelle, both from USC. For the men, UCLA's Sean Kern has won the award for the past two years.
The field of five finalists will be narrowed down to three. The three candidates, along with their coaches will be invited to The Olympic Club to attend the award banquet in early June of 2002.
The finalists for the Award are:
Jackie Frank of Stanford Sofia Konoukh of USC Adele McCarthy-Beauvais of Princeton Coralie Simmons of UCLA Brenda Villa of StanfordAdele McCarthy-Beauvais lead the Tigers with 81 goals this season. She was named MVP of the ECAC Tournament and the Southern Divisional Tournament. So far this year, she has earned first-team All-Tournament ECAC, first-team All-Southern, first-team All-Eastern and Player of the Year of the Southern Division honors.
