Ryan Smith Wins 800 Meters At IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Ryan Smith won the 800 meters (1:49.19) and senior Scott Denbo placed second in the shot put (58' 7.25") to lead the Princeton men's track and field team to a fourth place finish (43 points) on the final day of competition at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Princeton women placed 23rd with 12.5 points. Georgetown won the IC4A and ECAC outdoor titles.
Smith missed the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:49 by .19 of a second. Denbo's throw was an outdoor provisional qualifying mark.
Rebecca Desman and Lauren Simmons were the top finishers on the women's team on Sunday. Desman finished eighth in the high jump (5' 6") and Simmons placed eighth in the 800 meters (2:12.31). Catherine Casey finished 12th in the 3,000 meters (10:03.95) and Rebecca Haarlow placed 15th in the triple jump (11.94 meters). Liz Morse, Emily Smith, Kate Reid and Lauren Hofmann placed eighth (9:12.12) in the 4x800 relay.
Jeff Petrulis (51' 4.50") had a 14th place finish in the shot put and Biren Roy (3:51.01) and Tensai Asfaw (3:58.35) finished seventh and 12th, respectively, in the 1,500 meters.
