Princeton, N.J. - Adele McCarthy-Beauvais, a standout athlete on the Princeton women's water polo team, has been named second team All-America for the second consecutive year in her career by the American Water Polo Coaches Association. Only a sophomore, McCarthy-Beauvais will return for two more seasons to compete with the Tiger squad. This season she led the team to their third consecutive ECAC championship and their second consecutive Southern Divisional championship.
McCarthy-Beauvais, who scored 93 goals as a freshman and 83 as a sophomore has already broken the career goal scoring record at Princeton,159, held by graduating senior Katherine Kixmiller. McCarthy-Beauvais total currently stands at 176.
On the three all-America teams named, not including honorable mention honors, McCarthy-Beauvais is the only athlete from a school not situated in California to receive all-America recognition.
Currently, Adele McCarthy-Beauvais is one of five finalists for the 2001 Peter J. Cutino Women's National Player of the Year Award. The award is presented by The Olympic Club and is presented annually to the selected top male and female water polo athlete in the nation.
Adele McCarthy-Beauvais led the Tigers with 83 goals this season. She was named MVP of the ECAC Tournament and the Southern Divisional Tournament. So far this year, she has earned first-team All-Tournament ECAC, first-team All-Southern, first-team All-Southern and Player of the Year of the Southern Division honors.
