Box Score
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Freshman Karen Bolster made five three-pointers and junior Allison Cahill scored a game-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough as Princeton fell 75-63 at Stony Brook on Tuesday night. The Tigers drop to 8-8 with the loss while Stony Brook improves to 11-6 on the year.
Stony Brook led early, going up 5-0 to start the game. Sophomore Kelly Schaeffer tied the score at 11-11 and then knocked down a three-pointer to give the Tigers their first lead of the night, 14-11, at the 9:41 mark. The Seawolves would get even at 20-20 with Theresa LoParrino's bucket with four minutes to play in the period and Stony Brook led 30-26 at the half. Princeton shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and made 4 of 11 three-point baskets, but 13 turnovers keyed the Seawolves' surge. Stony Brook only shot 34 percent from the field and 14 percent from three-point range, however, 12 points off of Princeton turnovers resulted in four-point halftime lead.
After not shooting a single free throw in the first half, Princeton went to the line 17 times in the second half and during an eight-minute stretch, scoring 12 straight from the charity stripe. Bolster finished with 19 points, Schaeffer added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
"After I hit my second three-pointer I was feeling a little more confident in my shot," says Bolster. "But we just didn't play well enough to win tonight."
Stony Brook had the advantage on the offensive boards with 16 offensive rebounds compared to Princeton's four. The Seawolves made 59 percent of their field goals in the second half to hold the lead throughout the entire 20-minute period.
The Tigers finish the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 6-7 record and return to Ivy League play with games at Columbia and Cornell this Friday-Saturday, Feb. 1-2. Princeton is 2-1 in the league this season.
