Princeton Crews Compete At Head Of The Charles

Princeton, N.J. - Last weekend all four of Princeton's varsity crew programs competed at the premier event of the fall racing schedule, the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. At the race, five Tiger crews earned top five finishes, including the men's freshman four which won the Men's Youth 4 event.
First up on Sunday morning was the men's youth 4. Princeton, the defending champions of the event, started first and pulled away, winning the event with a time of 16:32.416. Wisconsin finished second, 40 seconds behind the winning crew. Next up was the women's youth 4. Princeton completed the course in a time of 20:53.062, good for 13th place overall and second among college entries.
In the afternoon, both the men's and women's lightweight crews competed. First in the lightweight men's 8 event, Princeton rowed to a 10th place overall finish, fifth among colleges. Princeton's time of 15:49.160 was 23 seconds slower than Yale, the fastest of the college boats. In the lightweight women's 8 race, Princeton placed third overall and second of all college entries. Harvard was the fastest college crew, finishing five seconds ahead of the Tigers. The second to last race of the afternoon featured Princeton's heavyweight men. Racing with bow number seven, the Tigers placed eighth overall and fifth out of the college boats. The U.S. National team won the event and Wisconsin was the top collegiate entrant. The final race of the day was the women's open 8. Princeton continued its successful day, placing fourth overall with a time of 16:44.121. The U.S. National team won the event and the highest finishing college crew was Yale.
This weekend Princeton will compete in two regattas. On Saturday, the crews will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., to compete at the Head of Schuylkill Regatta. There, both the freshman and varsity 8's will compete in the same events. On Sunday, Princeton will host many of the nation's top programs at the Princeton Chase on Carnegie Lake. Sunday's races are set to begin at noon.
